I want to be found!

If you would like me to find you, here is what you need to know.

The two most important rules are:

  1. You must be over 18
  2. Your find me request must be part of the video you submit, recorded at the location you want me to find.

How to Ask

I think rule #1 is pretty self-explanatory, but perhaps I should explain that second rule a bit more just to be clear. 😁

In order to demonstrate that the video you are submitting is a legitimate request from a person who wants me to reveal the location in the video, you must do one of the following things:

  • You must either appear on camera, at the location, and say "Find me, josemonkey" (or something like that)
  • Or, if you prefer not to appear on camera, you must show a find me sign in the video, at the location

If you want, you can download one of my "find me" signs, or feel free to make your own!

How NOT to Ask

You cannot simply add a "find me" request to another video you already have recorded!

  • Don't add an intro clip where you say "find me" to an existing video
  • Don't add a voiceover request to an existing video
  • Don't add text or graphic overlays that say "find me" to an existing video

The request must be part of the on-location video, as described above.

Avoid Cuts in the Video, If Possible

Ideally, the part of the video where you ask to be found should be part of one continuous clip with the rest of the video.

However, if your video is recorded in two parts — e.g., if you do the thing where you record the find me request in selfie mode and then flip the camera around to show the location — make sure that the part with your request shows things around you that make it evident that it was recorded at the same location as the rest of the video. Otherwise, I will not accept your request.

Please Try Not to Block the View

This is not a rule, per se, but I would ask you to do your best not to block the view of your surroundings with your head / body. Once you ask to be found, please move out of the way so I can see the area around you.

Failing to do this won't disqualify your video, but be aware that Chad may call a foul on the play for "unreasonable blocking" if the obstruction is excessive. (How embarrassing!)

How to Submit Your Request

Once you have recorded your video, post it to one of the many social media platforms where I am active.

When you do post your video, make sure you tag me so I will know about it. In the past, I specifically asked people to "tag me in a comment on the video," but that isn't always straightforward depending on what platform you are using, so please just tag me on the video... somehow.

The important thing is to make sure the platform sends me a notification about it so I have a chance of seeing your video.

Assuming I do see your video, I will reply to let you know that I saw it and added it to my list.

Other Things to Avoid

Ok - here a few other things I would ask that you avoid doing with the videos you sent me:

  • Please don't send me videos that were recorded while driving. I used to accept videos like that, but I don't anymore. Aside from it being unsafe, sometimes those videos will get my video flagged for showing dangerous activity, and I would like to avoid that. So, please use your head and don't send me videos that are going to get you or me in trouble with the robot mods that run these platforms.
  • Please don't add background music to the videos you send. If you do, I will probably have to mute the video (or figure out a way to remove the music) in order to avoid getting a copyright strike. That is a hassle for me, so I'd ask you not do it.
  • Avoid showing minors in your video. You must be 18 to play, of course, but even if an adult makes the request, I'd rather you do not show any children. I realize that your kids may want to join the fun, but I'd rather they did not. I may occasionally use videos where people include their children, but I will take steps to obscure their faces if I do. Again, that's a hassle for me, so more often than not I will simply not use those videos.
  • Do not record the video at your house! I really do not like doing videos at people's homes - especially since it is very difficult for me to reveal the location without telling people where you live. I'm not really comfortable with that, so please stick to public locations.
  • Do not email me videos and don't DM me requests. If you do, chances are I won't even see it. Please just post a video and tag me - that's it.

How I Will Use Your Video

This probably seems obvious, but by tagging me in a "find me" video as described above, you are asking me to publicly disclose the location in that video.

In order to do that, I ask that you give me a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use the video you submitted for that purpose.

If you do not agree to that, please don't ask me to find you.

Ok, that's all - I hope this helps. I look forward to seeing your video and (hopefully) finding you!
